Choices: Social Awareness

(bullying and racism) Primary
Katy is the new girl at school and desperate to fit in, but unfortunately Sophie seems determined to make things difficult for her. Luckily Katy manages to befriend Charlie; however Charlie has his own problems. All three will come to learn some difficult lessons and Charlie in particular has to choose between doing the right thing or submitting to peer pressure.
‘Choices’ tries to raise social awareness to real and current issues faced by children today. It looks at the effects of peer pressure and how it can sometimes be difficult to have the confidence to stand out from the crowd and do the right thing. Everyone wants to fit in but this should never be used as an excuse to break the law or harm others, whether this is verbally or physically. Bullying and Racism is unfortunately an all too familiar occurrence in today’s society. ‘Choices’ ties to raise these issues in an informative yet sensitive manner and as with all our plays the key focus is to inform and educate whilst not compromising on the theatrical content.

Consequences: Social Awareness
(Secondary) Nobody ever said growing up was easy. But for Mia, Rachel and Ash everything seems to have come at once, exams, career decisions not to mention personal and family problems. As a teenager it often feels like everyone is always trying to tell you what to do and for the girls this is no exception, from teachers, to parents and even each other, everyone has an opinion. At first ignoring their problems seems the easier option, but at a friends party everything comes to a head, mistakes are made and things are revealed that cannot be forgotten. We all make choices and sometimes these are not always made for the right reasons. Every action has a consequence, but when it comes down to it its how you deal with the consequences that counts and shapes the person you are to become. Mia, Rachel and Ash are forced to face up to the twists and turns, pressures and choices of teenage life, how they cope with it however is up to them!'Consequences' tries to raise social awareness to real and current issues faced by today's young adults. These issues include looking at the pressures on young women to conform to an unrealistic ideal body image as presented by the media and the dangerous impact this can have. 'Consequences' also tries to represent a realistic but informative approach to the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, With the rapidly rising numbers of teenage pregnancy and the spread of STD's the promotion of 'safe sex' amongst young adults is of paramount importance and both these subjects are touched on and dealt with in a relevant and sensitive manner. In writing 'Consequences' our aim was to provide young adults with appropriate and relevant information about the aforementioned important social issues. We have placed this within a realistic context that serves to provide information so that they can make an informed choice rather than trying to 'preach' facts, all whilst maintaining a high standard of theatre.
If required, information regarding the issues discussed and where help regarding these issues can be found can be provided. Please enquire further if you are interested in this facility.
